While smaller brands may not be able to contend with bigger companies, they can always win in the “slow game”. During this episode, Wilson Torres shares how you can build an exceptional brand, build relationships with customers, and build a following.
MEET WILSON TORRES
Wilson is the Lead brand Specialist for Union Horse Distilling Company out of Kansas City, Kansas. It’s a Midwest born and raised distillery family producing big things in small-batches. During this episode, Wilson shares the what, where, why and how Iron Horse produces its line of experiences to share.
Wilson explains that, “Today’s whiskey drinker is open to what’s ‘new’ vs. the drinker who only drinks the old (which is fine too!)”.
Unleashing his creativity
Wilson started in sales roles within the tech industry working for Apple, Google, and Hewlett-Packard in Chicago. Wilson recounts that he’d eventually gotten to a point where he “wasn’t having anymore fun”.
Wilson took a step back, taking 6-8 months on a holiday sabbatical. While visiting a local Chicago bar that he frequents for a meal and cocktail, Wilson took special notice at how enjoyable his cocktail was and he became curious.
“…That prompted a question, ‘What makes this cocktail my favorite? What makes this cocktail so good?’ …So I went down the rabbit hole. I started talking to the bartender… and started asking.”

From that conversation, Wilson thought that maybe this was up his alley: he enjoys a good cocktail with friends and family. He is now the Lead Brand Specialist at a distillery.
Wilson credits his willingness to keep learning as the bridge between his previous career and what he does now. During his podcast episode, Wilson shares his formula for building an exceptional brand.
